1st Editors’ Conclave

Birla School of Communication, Birla Global University, hosted its 1st Editors’ Conclave on April 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to fostering dialogue between academia and the media industry. The conclave brought together a distinguished panel of editors from leading national media houses, sparking insightful conversations on the evolving landscape of journalism.

Held at the university’s Bhubaneswar campus, the event served as a dynamic platform for students, professionals to engage in meaningful discussions on two thought-provoking themes— “Media in Transition: The Editor’s Perspective Then and Now” and “The Future of Media Freedom: Corporate Influence, Editorial Independence and Regulatory Challenges”—the conclave facilitated in-depth conversations on the shifting roles, responsibilities, and challenges of editorial leadership in the digital age.

Panelists included Mr. Tathagata Satpathy, Editor, Dharitri & Orissa Post, Mr. Nilambar Rath Editor & CEO, OdishaLIVE and Former Editor, ETV Network, Mr. Ruben Banerjee, General   Secretary, Editors Guild of India, Former Editor-in-Chief, Outlook, Ms. Sarvapriya Sangwan, Editor, Digital Content, BBC News, Mr. Manoranjan Mishra Founder & Editor, News Room Former Editor, OTV & Kanak News, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Editor, MBC Television, Mr. Sisir Bhattmishra, Editor, Nandighosa TV  who shared their experiences, challenges, and insights into the future of news and responsible journalism.Ptof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, BGU and Registrar Prof. B.K Das felicitated all the esteemed editors.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Shiv Shankar Das, Dean of Birla School of Communication, said, “The Editors’ Conclave is a reflection of our mission to connect students with real-world challenges and thought leaders from the media fraternity.

The conclave concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Gyana Ranjan Mishra, Assistant Professor at the Birla School of Communication. Ms. Anwesha Padhi and Dr. Mehul Agarwal, Assistant Professor at the Birla School of Communication, moderated the sessions.
