Category: Media Coverage Date: 11 Mar 2025

The Birla School of Communication at Birla Global University successfully hosted a Model NITI Aayog Simulation on March 11, 2025, focusing on India’s Readiness to Achieve the SDGs by 2030. The event provided a dynamic platform for students to engage in policy discussions, representing key stakeholders, including Union Ministers, state delegates, and international organizations.

Chairperson Slipilipsha Swain and Vice-Chairperson Riya Singh led the deliberations as delegates examined crucial issues such as poverty eradication, socially inclusive finance, climate action, and smart city initiatives. Priyanshu Mohanty (Union Finance Minister), Dipshikha Dey (Minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change), and Ritik Panigrahi (Urban Development Minister) defended government policies, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to achieving the SDGs.

International and national representatives, including Rakhi Shukla (NHRC), Santali Sarkar (NGT), and Supriya Singh (UNDP), offered global perspectives on governance and sustainability. The UNDP delegate highlighted the need for India to accelerate progress by learning from successful global models.

State representatives—Sitoshna Nayak (Odisha), Shubhangi Das (Uttarakhand), Siddharth Suman (Bihar), Deepika Saha (Manipur), Suhani Sarangi (Rajasthan), Kengam Swetha Mani (Andhra Pradesh), and Aliva Kujur (Kerala)—addressed regional challenges in achieving the SDGs. They discussed how collaborative efforts between state governments, central bodies, and international organizations could drive sustainable development without disrupting local ecosystems and economies.

The press team, including Ankita Chakraborty, Eshikaa Roy, R Suraj Kumar Pradhan, and Prempratim Pradhan, conducted a probing Q&A session, challenging delegates with incisive questions on policy shortcomings and the urgency of action.

As the motion to accelerate SDG-related efforts was passed, Dr. Shiv Shankar Das, Dean of the School, commended students for their proactive engagement and encouraged them to continue participating in such intellectual exercises. Faculty Coordinator Dr. Mehul Agarwal delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the dedication of students, faculty, and volunteers in making the event a resounding success.

The simulation concluded with an enriched understanding of India’s policy landscape and the collective action required to achieve the SDGs effectively.
