Birla School of Management (BSoM), Birla Global University (BGU), Odisha, organized an International Conference on “Economic Equity in a Post Pandemic World” on October 14-15, 2022 in collaboration with The City University of New York, USA. The conference was attended by more than 300 delegates from different countries such as USA, UK, Slovenia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Kenya, Myanmar and India. Prof. P. Nayak, Conference Chair & Dean, BSoM, BGU delivered the welcome address and explained the objectives of the conference. Conference deliberated on 3 main issues-Leadership and Equitable Business, Economic Equity and Sustainable Development and Transitioning to Industry 5.0 in Post Pandemic World. The discussion was triggered with two pertinent questions raised by the conference Chair on how to re-humanize the workplace and what should be the roles of new generation leaders in this scenario?. The discussion was taken forward by Dr. Jo-Ann Rolle, Conference Co-Chair & Dean from The City University of New York, USA who emphasized on innovative and compassionate leadership to achieve economic equity and sustainable development. The Chief Guest of the conference Dr. Santrupt Misra, Group Director, Birla Carbon; Director, Chemicals; & Director, Group H.R., Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd explained how poverty is same as inequality. He stressed on a shift from shareholder capitalism to stakeholder capitalism to achieve sustainable development.
The Guest of Honour, a distinguished economist Dr. Ajit Ranade, Vice Chancellor, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune brought the sensation citing how Economics as a discipline is silent to the discussion of equality or equity. He emphasised on the fact that the inequality will be there with us, but we need to decide on how much inequality is optimum for the society for sustainable growth. Another Guest of Honour Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director BIMTECH, Greater Noida enlightened the audience with facts and figures and interpretations of World Inequality Report 2022. He emphasized on DIE policy to lower the inequality ratio from an economist’s point of view. Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, BGU deliberated on post pandemic inequalities in the context of education and literacy. The turbulent period of Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the work methods and jolted the educational system. Dr. B. K. Das, Registrar, BGU offered a vote of thanks and stated that only economic equality can bring peace to the world.

Twenty selected research papers were presented in this conference. The Research papers of Mr. V.N. Sreedhar, Research Scholar, Birla Global University, Ms. Namrata Nanda, Research Scholar, Lincoln University College, Malaysia and Dr. Shikha Gera, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Jamia Hamdard, University were awarded as best three papers. Professor, Birla School of Management, BGU and Dr. Archana Choudhary, Associate Professor, BGU moderated the technical sessions.
