  • Eligibility Criteria

    Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission: Bar Council of India may from time to time, stipulate the minimum percentage of marks not below 45% of the total marks in case of general category applicants,42% for OBC category and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants, to be obtained for the qualifying examination, such as +2 examination in case of Integrated Five Years’ course or Degree course in any discipline for Three years’ LLB course, for the purpose of applying for and getting admitted into a law Degree Program of any recognized University in either of the streams.

    Provided that such a minimum qualifying marks shall not automatically entitle a person to get admission into an institution but only shall entitle the person concerned to fulfil other institutional criteria notified by the institution concerned or by the government concerned from time to time to apply for admission.

    For admission into the BBA-LLB program of BGU Bhubaneswar applicants with a valid *LSAT /CLAT/AILET/XLET / BGU Entrance Test score will be preferred.

  • Regulation

    These REGULATIONS shall comprehensively govern all aspects of under BBA.LL.B (Hons.) the under-graduate academic program at the Birla School of Law, Birla Global University.

    The Program

    (a) The Bachelor of Business Administration & Law (Hons) program is a five year integrated undergraduate full-time academic program of Birla Global University. BBA. LL.B (Hons) will be awarded to students on successful completion of the ten semester program.

    (b) Eligibility for admission.
    As per norms prescribed by Bar Council of India and notified from time to time.

    Pedagogy

    The University imparts instruction through lectures, seminars, tutorials, internships, moot court and field visits. Study material is distributed for each course and forms the basis of class discussion and interactive learning so that students remain engaged. Moreover there is constant dialogue in class on contemporary issues pertinent to the curriculum. Courses also includes a project assignment to develop research, analysis and writing skills.

    The courses are taught by a [faculty] or team of faculty members, who teach together, so that the available expertise is optimally used and the education imparted is interdisciplinary. The diversity of programs and exercises ensures that students are exposed to a wide range of experiences relevant to understanding the role of law in society.

    Projects, Seminar Courses and Clinical Courses etc

    • In every course 50% component of marks shall be for continuous assessment comprise of Projects (15), Mid Term (25), Snap Test/Presentation/Attendance/Quiz/Class Participation (10) and remaining 50% of End Term Examination and assessment on written examination unless otherwise specified.
    • Plagiarism in projects submitted by the students shall constitute a serious academic malpractice and shall carry mandatory punishment of forfeiture of all marks in the concerned subject and / or suspension from the University for a maximum of one academic year. The anti-plagiarism policy is notified separately.

    Seminar Courses

    • Attendance shall be compulsory for all the students during the presentations of seminar papers.
    • A Seminar Course shall comprise of 100 marks, of which, there will preferably be an examination component of 30 marks. The written projects, presentation / viva voce, and other components shall comprise rest of the marks.
    • In seminar courses, in order to successfully complete and pass the course, a student shall secure a minimum of 50 marks in all the components put together. If any student fails in the seminar course, a repeat examination (of the examination component) or resubmission of the seminar paper, or fresh presentation, or resubmission of the seminar paper and fresh presentation may be administered by the Faculty – in – Charge, within reasonable time, in consultation with the Department of the University. The prescribed fee for resubmission and/or repeat examination shall be paid by the student prior to such repeat examination/resubmission. A student is allowed to take maximum of two repeat exams.
    • Plagiarism in seminar papers submitted by the students shall constitute a serious academic malpractice and shall carry the same consequences as for projects.
    • A student who fails to secure the requisite marks in the seminar course despite the facility for repeat examination prescribed in Rule 6.8, or fails to complete the various components of the course, during the semester, shall be treated as failed in that seminar course. Such a student shall choose an additional seminar course in the following semester.

    Clinical Courses

    Clinical Courses shall be taught and governed as per the Bar Council of India guidelines.

    Prohibition against lateral entry and exit

    There shall be no lateral entry on the plea of graduation in any subject or exit bywayof awarding a degree splitting the integrated double degree course, at any intermediary stage of integrated double degree course.

    Examination System

    a). The Mid-Semester and End Semester Examinations shall ordinarily be conducted in the first week of September/ March and December/June respectively or on such dates may be fixed by the University. The academic performance of a candidate shall be evaluated in respect of the courses of study prescribed for each semester through the examinations held for respective semesters.

    b). The Controller of Examination shall announce the schedule of the examination for every semester and notify the same on the Notice Board/ Website of the University. In exceptional circumstances, minor alteration of the scheduled dates can be carried out by the Controller of Examinations in consultation with the Dean under approval of the Vice Chancellor for accommodating any of the co-curricular activities or extra-curricular activities in which a significant number of students are involved in or are participating.

    c). The mid-semester examination (for 25 marks) shall generally be of one hour duration and the end-semester exam (for 50 marks) shall generally be of two and half hours in duration.

    Repeat/Back Examination

    A candidate who secures less than the minium grade required to pass a paper/semester or a candidate who remains absent in a paper/semester shall be allowed to appear repeat/back examination in the subsequent odd or even semester subject to a maximum of consecutive two times with the span period of the course. However, if a candidate fails in the aggregate he/she may appear in any paper/s of that semester to improve the aggregate subject to a maximum of two times with the span period of the course.

    Unfair means and Malpractices in Examinations

    Any unfair means adopted by any examinee in any examination conducted by the University shall be punishable as per rules of the University.

    Code of conduct during examination

    • Examinees are to report at their respective halls of Examination 15 minutes prior to the commencement of examination.
    • Examinees are required to be in in formal attire during the examination.
    • Examinees are required to come with their own pen, pencil, ruler, eraser etc. However, Books, Notes, statistical tables, log tables etc. are strictly prohibited.
    • Examinees are instructed not to bring mobile phones, smart watches to the examination halls.
    • Examinees, wherever necessary, have to undergo a physical search by internal squad members (Gents & Ladies) before entry into the examination hall.
    • Examinees are advised to go through the instructions mentioned in the answer sheet/ question paper and are required to follow them in letter and spirit.
    • Examinees, on receipt of the answer sheet and the question paper, should see that printing is clearly visible and that the answer sheet contains all the pages. Any deviation noticed should be brought to the knowledge of the hall invigilator present in the hall.
    • Examinees are required not to write answers in the front inner page of the answer sheet.
    • Examinees are to fill in the columns of the answer sheet like Roll No, Paper, and Paper Code & Date etc correctly.
    • Any communication with other students, writing on the question paper/palm and use/possession of any incriminating material shall amount to adoption of unfair means in the examination and shall invite punishment or penalty as codified in “Examination Policy and Procedure “adopted by the University.
    • Examinees should observe absolute silence in the examination hall at the time of examination. The invigilator reserves the right to expel an examinee from the examination hall if any activity of an examinee is in contravention of rules of examination.
    • Additional answer sheets will not be issued 10 minutes prior to the end of the examination. Hence, examinees are instructed to plan the use of additional answer sheets accordingly.
    • Examinees are required not to take eatables, soft drinks, and water inside examination hall.
    • Examinees will be allowed to visit the washroom after one hour that too once only during the entire period of examination. However, nobody will be allowed to leave the examination hall for any purpose whatsoever half an hour before the end of the examination.
    • The examinees should deposit the answer script with the hall invigilator before leaving the examination hall. Carrying answer scripts outside the hall is a punishable offence.
    • Indulgence in any sort of activity that will disturb the sanctity of the examination shall be punishable.
    • Examinees must ensure to write their name and roll no clearly and correctly on every sheet of question paper and any other paper such as tables, graphs etc. The violation of this rule will invite disciplinary action.
    • Correction fluid must not be used.
    • Number your answers in the left-hand margin as per the number given in question paper.
    • If an examinee needs a supplementary answer sheet, he/ she is required to ask for it before the last 10 minutes of examination period, otherwise the request would be denied.
    • Examinees are required to promptly submit the answer sheet without making any delay there are required to tie the answer sheets (additional if any) well before the exam time gets over.
    • The guidelines mentioned above are to be scrupulously followed during the period of the examination. In spite of warnings , reminder etc. if an activity of any examinee is contrary to the established norms , then such examinee shall be punished as per the prevailing rules of the University.

    Codified Rules for Award of Punishment for Adoption of Unfair Means in Examination

    For minor infringements like writing on palms, attempting to talk with other examinees, for writing the roll number or leaving any identification mark anywhere in the answer script except in the place provided for the purpose.     Evaluation System

    Evaluation system will be followed as per the decision of the Board of Studies.

    Question Paper

    The question paper shall comprise of one short/objective type compulsory question covering the whole syllabus of the paper and five questions with alternatives from all the units.

    Cumulative Grade Point Average

    Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is deduced at by dividing the sum of the Grade Values and the Course Credits in each course by the total number of credits in all the courses as per the following table.

    A student has to secure minimum 40% to pass a paper and 50% in aggregate to pass the examination.. A transitory letter grade I (carrying points 2) shall be introduced for cases where the results are incomplete. This grade shall automatically be converted into appropriate grade(s) as and when the results are complete. A student’s level of competence shall be categorized by a positive GRADE POINT AVERAGE.

    It may be specified as:

    SGPA-Semester Grade Point Average

    CGPA-Cumulative Grade Point Average

    (a).POINT- Integer equivalent of each letter grade
    (b).CREDIT- Integer signifying the relative emphasis of individual course item(s) in a semester as indicated by the course structure and syllabus.

    After successful completion of the six semesters examination students will be awarded Bachelor Degree in Commerce (Hons.) with specialization in Accounting & Finance/ Banking & Insurance/Management.

    The regulation is subject to modification as and when necessary. The Syllabus shall remain valid from 2019-20 Admission Batch.

    Transcript

    Based on the above recommendation on Letter grades, grade points and SGPA and CGPA, the Board of Conducting Examinations may issue the transcript for each semester and a consolidated transcript indicating the performance in all semesters as approved by the Academic Council.

    Award of grace marks

    The Board of Conducting Examiners shall undertake in-depth analysis of the performance of the examinees. If the Board feels satisfied, it may recommend the result to be passed and published under the authority of the University. On the other hand, if the Board is of the opinion that performance of the students in general is not up to the mark in a particular paper it may recommend award of Special Grace Mark within permissible limit and thereafter may recommend the result to be passed & published.

    Common Grace Mark Rule (Under-Graduate Students)

    Notwithstanding the provisions mentioned above, all under-graduate students whose performance is poor are entitled to privileges of this Grace Mark Rule. This rule, here-in-after shall be called the Common Grace Mark Rule of the University for undergraduate students only.

    “This rule shall be made applicable in case of those candidates who after receiving such grace clear the end-term examination. However, the maximum grace mark is restricted to 2% of the total marks of the semester examination, provided further that the grace mark in any paper shall not exceed 10% of the maximum marks in that subject. The aggregate shall be considered as a subject for this purpose.”

    Application

    • This rule shall be applicable in case of those candidates who clear the Semester Examination after receiving this grace mark.
    • Subject to a maximum of 2% of the total marks of the Semester be awarded in a distributive manner in each paper in which the examinee has secured less than the pass mark. Maximum grace mark in any individual paper shall not exceed 10% of the total marks in that paper. Aggregate shall be considered as a subject for the purpose.

    Award of Distinction

    Students securing 7.5 CGPA in first attempt shall be awarded BBA.LLB. (Hons.) with Distinction. Distinction will not be awarded to candidates with back papers.

    Equivalent Percentage of Marks

    Equivalent % of Marks = CGPA X 9.5
