Bhubaneswar-based Birla Global University organized Commencement Day to welcome the newly admitted batches of Birla School of Commerce, Birla School of Social Science and Humanities, Birla School of Law and Birla School of Applied Sciences on 22 July 2023. The occasion was graced by CMA Shiba Prasad Padhy, Former Chairman, ICAI, Bhubaneswar, in the first session. Dr. Kiran Kumar Pradhan, Registrar (District Judge Cadre), Odisha Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (OREAT) was present as the Guest of Honor and Prof. (Dr.) Jayadev Pati, Senior Professor and Advisor, SNIL, SOA University was the Chief Guest for the post-lunch session.
CMA Padhy used real life examples to demonstrate the importance of balancing passion with hardwork to create a successful career. He motivated the students to make good use of the University resources to hone their skillset. Dr. Kiran Kumar Pradhan shed light on the “invisible factors of courage, determination and conviction” to live tangible achievements and said that a student must seek such people who “ignite the spark” within them. Prof. (Dr.) Jayadev Pati shared his experiences with the Law students and said “Doctors, Engineers and other professions save people, Law saves an entire generation”.
In his presidential address Prof. (Dr.) P. P. Mathur, Vice-Chancellor, Birla Global University, said that “there is no definite mantra for success. You have to start by being a dreamer.
Prof. (Dr.) B. K. Das, Registrar, Birla Global University, asked the students to take good care of their mental and physical health.
Dr. Samson Moharana, Dean, Birla School of Commerce, Birla School of Social Science and Humanities, BGU, delivered the welcome address. Talking about the significance of networking for professional development in the current scenario, Dr. Moharana said “You need to see the world and the world needs to see who you are”. Dr. Pradeep Ku. Tiwari, Head, Birla School of Applied Sciences, BGU, emphasized on the importance of maintaining discipline and finding concrete purpose in a student’s life. Dr. Lalit Kumar Deb, Dean, Birla School of Law, recommended students to read celebrated books to begin with. In his address for the students of law, Dr. Deb said “only through genuinely curious questioning can you evolve into a good lawyer; law and philosophy are intertwined in that way”.
The program commenced with the rendering of BGU “Kulgeet” (University Anthem) and lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The event was attended by the Deans of different schools, faculty members, parents and newly admitted students.
