BGU Organizes Webinar on Good Governance and Transparency- The Key to Institutional Sustainability

The Birla School of Commerce, Birla Global University organized a webinar in collaboration with Institute of Company Secretaries of India, New Delhi, on the topic "Good Governance and Transparency: The Key to Institutional Sustainability" on 16th November 2020, at 3pm on Zoom platform. CS Nagendra D Rao, Vice President, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, New Delhi and CA, CS S.Sudhakar, Vice President (Corporate Secretarial) Reliance Industries Ltd. joined as resource persons in the webinar. They were accompanied by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BGU, Prof.(Dr.) Premendu P. Mathur, Registrar, Prof.(Dr.) B.K.Das, and Dean, Birla School of Commerce, Prof.(Dr.) Samson Moharana.

The keynote address was delivered by CS Nagendra D Rao, Vice President, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, New Delhi who emphasised the importance of practicing ethics at personal level and explained the 14 essential elements of a leader as drawn from mythology. CA, CS S.Sudhakar, Vice President (Corporate Secretarial) Reliance Industries Ltd. also substantiated his beautiful presentation with examples of governance from the Ramayana, Mahabharat, Arthashashtra and Bhagwad Gita. The webinar saw participation from students, academia, corporates and practitioners.

The webinar began with a welcome address by Dean, Birla School of Commerce, Prof.(Dr.) Samson Moharana who spoke about intricacies of sustainability and how good governance is important in testing times like Covid. His address was followed by the address of Vice Chancellor, Prof.(Dr.) Premendu P. Mathur who focused on importance of governance at levels in life and drew an inverse relationship between governance and lack of transparency. Registrar, Prof.(Dr.) B.K.Das shared his professional experience in governance in banking sector.

The session was moderated by Prof. Lopamudra Nayak, Assistant Prof, School of Commerce and was organised by Dr. Hemant Bhanawat, Assistant Prof, School of Commerce. The session ended with an eventful question answer session and vote of thanks by Dr. BP Bijay Sankar.
