Starting college is the beginning of a new phase in life, ànd it means stepping out of your comfort zone, meeting new people and learning new things. For people who have never lived in the hostel before, learning to adjust and sharing your room with a person who you haven't really met unless you have a sibling, then they would not know the pain of sharing!
As a student of the university, I have experienced many aspects of the university life that includes the seminars, interactive classes, group projects, not to mention the scenic view, gardens interspersed with tall green trees and the clean air making it one of the most environment friendly universities in the country. There are various places for the students to unwind and relax, the gym being one of them, as well as for the parents who visit their children. A walk in the campus releases all the tension and anxieties of facing hectic deadlines and submitting of papers.
When I first entered the university, tugging at my many bags and saying goodbye to my parents, I wasn't sure how I would adjust to a life without my family. I started looking for my room in the hostel and was having trouble finding it, as they looked all alike. I finally found my room and as I was settling down trying to unpack my stuff, I needed a scissor and I went looking for someone, I met a girl in the next room who was equally nervous as me ànd we started chatting and fèlt a little comfortable at the prospect of it all. She was really friendly and we hit it off and we met other roommates as well. I remember that it was friendship day and we all took a photo and laughed together chatted.
The first night I stayed in the hostel, I was feeling lonely and homesick but after the classes started I started settling in and got busy with projects and making weekends plans with my friends. We explored the places nearby, and soaked in the culture of the city. Although we got to eat some of the new cuisine of the city, we all missed the mouth-watering delicacies of our home cities! We tried some of that street food near the campus, such as momos, golgappes, jalebis etc toake us feel more at home in the campus.
We had our first introductory class and I learned a lot about my course and what I was gonna study for the next 3 years. There were so many practical activities which would eventually help us in the learning process.
And before I realized it, the time flew by with the classes, activities, seminars and hostel keeping us busy.
One of the fascinating things about my course is that we get to learn a myriad stuff about mass media, which includes recording radio programs in our studio thàt are broadcast on our own channel and is listened by everyone in our university. We also learn a lot about the technicalities of using a camera with a lot of practical experience. Our professors are very interactive, ready to help us out, ànd are understanding and empathetic which màkes us feel at ease.
Birla has given me so many opportunities to broaden my horizons and learn new things in the process. It has been a wonderful journey and this place has now become a home to me. With the pandemic affecting all our lives for over a year now, I cannot wait for it to get over and get back to my university.
