Category: Media Coverage Date: 09 Apr 2025

A vibrant mock parliament session was conducted on April 9, 2025 by the students of Birla School of Communication, bringing the workings of the parliamnet to life with a discussion on the Broadcast Bill. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students portraying MPs, with six representatives each from the ruling government and the opposition.

The session was presided over by student Shrestha Mohanty enacting former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. The government side featured MPs Kangana Ranaut (Tanya Tanvi Mohanty), Hema Malini (Mehak Bhogal), Aparajita Sarangi (Abhilipsha Das) and Anupriya Patel (Abhipsha Bhuyan), while the opposition bench included Saayoni Ghosh (Soumya Biswal), Kumari Sheilja (Priyanka Jena), Sanjana Jatav (Shrabani Routray), Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (Tejaswini Bishoyi) along with Priyanka Gandhi (Yashi Agarwal) and Rahul Gandhi (Aritro Dutta). The session also saw minister Shobha Karandlaje (Khushika Tank) and PM Modi (Subhransu Shekhar Sahoo). Student Sonia Nayak was the emcee.

The debate was marked by sharp exchanges, passionate arguments, and a realistic portrayal of parliamentary dynamics. The opposition’s united front ultimately led to the defeat of the Broadcast Bill through a voice vote and a show of hands.

The event drew praise from the Dean Dr. Shiv Shankar Das and faculty members, who commended the students for their research, performance, and engagement. The audience’s active participation further elevated the discussion, making the session a memorable academic and experiential success. Faculty coordinator Dr. Mehul Agarwal thanked one and all for their efforts and engagement.
