IQAC Cell of BGU Hosts National Seminar on Reimagining Quality in Higher Education

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Birla Global University (BGU), Bhubaneswar, successfully organized a One-Day National Seminar on “Reimagining Quality in Higher Education: Innovation, Accreditation and Global Competitiveness” on 9 June 2026. The seminar brought together eminent academicians, policymakers, quality assurance experts, and institutional leaders from across the country to deliberate on emerging dimensions of quality, innovation, accreditation, and global competitiveness in higher education.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. Manidatta Ray, Director, IQAC and Seminar Convenor, emphasized that higher education institutions have evolved from a culture of compliance to one of continuous improvement, innovation, and societal impact. He highlighted the challenge of achieving international standards while remaining committed to social development and nation building. The inaugural session was graced by Sri Kaliprasanna Mohapatra, IAS, Director, Higher Education, Government of Odisha, who underscored the importance of nurturing curiosity, innovation, and the Indian Knowledge System among students and urged institutions to cultivate a problem-solving mindset.

Prof. Damodar Acharya, Former Director of IIT Kharagpur, former Chairman of AICTE, and former Vice-Chancellor of BPUT, who attended the seminar as the Guest of Honour, shared his valuable thoughts on the need to rethink conventional classroom practices. He emphasized that the acquisition of knowledge alone cannot be the sole purpose of classroom learning and called upon institutions to create engaging and inspiring learning environments that encourage curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Prof. B.K. Das, Registrar, BGU, stressed that quality consciousness must become an integral part of institutional culture and highlighted the crucial role of IQAC in sustaining excellence through structured quality enhancement initiatives. Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice-Chancellor, BGU, observed that the rapid expansion of the higher education sector has made robust quality assurance mechanisms indispensable and emphasized continuous learning, innovation, self-improvement, and global engagement as key drivers of institutional excellence.

The seminar featured insightful keynote addresses by distinguished experts from Banaras Hindu University, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIM Kozhikode, and Utkal University, who deliberated on accreditation, rankings, sustainability, innovation, global benchmarking, research ecosystems, and institutional competitiveness. Participants also shared institutional best practices in areas such as ecological sustainability and industry-academia collaboration. The seminar concluded with the presentation of the seminar report by Dr. R.K. Mishra, Deputy Director, IQAC and Co-Convenor of the Seminar. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Poonam Sahoo, Deputy Director, IQAC and Co-Convenor of the Seminar. The event ended with the distribution of certificates to participants and a collective commitment to strengthening quality, innovation, and excellence in higher education.
